From 11 to 14 June 2024, a delegation of 23 people from Université Paris-Saclay took part in the 4th EUGLOH annual summit, the alliance of European universities for global health, in Szeged, Hungary. The event was attended by over 400 people, including 60 students from the alliance's partner universities and associated partners.

The theme of this year’s edition was "All roads lead to EUGLOH", and was hosted by the University of Szeged. The summit was marked by the exceptional presence of two 2023 Nobel Prize laureates: Prof Dr Katalin Karikó (Nobel Prize in Medicine) and Prof Dr Anne L'Huillier (Nobel Prize in Physics), who are both researchers at EUGLOH member universities.

Both Nobel Prize winners stressed the importance of international collaborations throughout their careers. Prof Dr Anne L'Huillier, who was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa by Université Paris-Saclay in November 2023, explained how her excellent scientific career has been built on collaboration with scientific teams from the five founding universities of the alliance*, including Université Paris-Saclay through the Laboratory of Interactions, Dynamics and Lasers (Lidyl - Univ. Paris-Saclay/CEA), where everything first began.

In her opening speech, Sandrine Lacombe, EUGLOH coordinator and professor at Université Paris-Saclay, also stressed the importance of the alliance in sharing European culture and values, whilst highlighting EUGLOH's expertise and potential for education, research and innovation as key factors in meeting today's societal challenges.

Over 60 students involved in Local Student Boards (LSBs) on their respective campuses took part in and led the summit’s first workshop focused on "student/staff partnerships". The workshop, which was led by students Charlotte Malle, a second year Master’s student in Sport Sciences for Health and Performance at the Faculty of Sports Sciences at Université Paris-Saclay, and Tori Heitmann Jørgensen from Lund University, kicked off the sessions on 11 June. The workshop brought together students and academic and administrative staff who discussed challenges and brainstormed together on ways to improve collaboration and co-create actions to make student engagement a true asset, as well as EUGLOH's brand image.

On 13 June, during the EUGLOH roundtable discussion, Andrea Van der Loos, a second year Master’s student at the Jean Monnet Faculty at Université Paris-Saclay and LSB representative for Université Paris-Saclay: "I've been involved in a lot of EUGLOH activities and I wanted to get more involved. That is why I joined the LSB." She encouraged students to take advantage of EUGLOH opportunities: "Be curious, build your network, EUGLOH is a platform for that."

The annual EUGLOH Summit is a unique opportunity for sharing and exchange between students and academic and administrative staff, fostering the development of new collaborative projects. These exchanges help to develop the Alliance's capacity, expertise and impact, both on campuses and within each member's socio-economic and research ecosystems.

See you in June 2025 at the University of Novi Sad, Serbia, for the next annual summit!
