The French Academy of Science announces its new members in 2025

On 17 December 2024, the French Academy of Science announced its 18 new members, exceptional scientists and figureheads in their respective fields, who will join the academy in 2025 following a formal award ceremony which will be held at the Institut de France on Tuesday 3 June 2025. 

The Computer and Information Science Commission

Michel Beaudouin-Lafon

Michel Beaudouin-Lafon is a professor at Université Paris-Saclay and a researcher within the Ex-Situ team at the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Computer Science (LISN – Univ. Paris-Saclay/CNRS). His research aims to understand how humans use computers to simplify and improve the human-computer interaction at interfaces.

The Transition and Environment Commission

Valérie Masson-Delmotte

Valérie Masson-Delmotte is a CEA research director at the Laboratory for Climate and Environmental Sciences (LSCE – Univ. Paris-Saclay/UVSQ/CNRS/CEA). She is renowned both in France and around the world as one of the leading scientists at the IPCC and is extremely proactive in her work to understand climate change, analyse resulting climate events and inform the general public and decision makers.

The Interfaces Commission

Purificación López-García

Purificación López-García is a CNRS research director at the Laboratory for Ecology, Systematics and Evolution (ESE – Univ. Paris-Saclay/AgroParisTech/CNRS). She has an excellent national and international reputation for her remarkable contributions to the identification of forms of life in the most inhospitable natural environments, making her one of the top specialists in evolutionary biology and the origins of the evolutionary tree.
