About us - Graduate School of Mathematics
Roles, missions and strengths
The Graduate School of Mathematics consolidates all research activities and all course offerings (Master's degree and PhD) in mathematics. It brings together mathematicians from the Université Paris-Saclay that work on a broad spectrum ranging from fundamental to more applied questions, including mathematics at the interfaces. The Graduate School guarantees the relevance of its initial and continuing education programs through lasting links with its socio-economic partners. It thus enables the transfer of research results in mathematics and the emergence of innovations. It contributes to maintaining the mastery and know-how from the foundations of mathematical research to the concrete exploitation of the results produced in France.
A very broad thematic spectrum of research
One of the strengths of the Graduate School is the wide range of topics covered by its laboratories, from the heart of mathematics to applications, with strong interfaces with other scientific fields. The richness of the mathematical community also resides in the diversity of the profiles that compose it: academic staff from universities and engineering schools, researchers from large research organizations, or technical centers.
Internationally recognized scientific excellence
The mathematical community of the Université Paris-Saclay benefits today a great recognition at the national and international levels, in particular by the Shanghai ranking, and thus reinforces its position as a major actor within the Université Paris-Saclay. Many mathematicians of the perimeter have received prestigious awards. Since 2000, they have received:
- three Fields Medals in arithmetic and algebraic geometry, probability and algebra,
- three Abel Prizes in algebraic geometry, differential geometry, and harmonic analysis,
- two Wolf Prizes in algebraic geometry and probability
The FMJH is a central pillar
The Fondation Mathématique Jacques Hadamard (FMJH), founded in 2010, deploys a wide range of actions to reinforce the attractiveness of the Université Paris-Saclay to international students and young researchers. The foundation supports research by funding projects and postdoctoral students. Its sponsorship program, supported by major actors in the French economy, advances research on issues with high industrial impact and contributes to the influence of the Université Paris-Saclay.
